Ten Tenaska-owned and -operated plants and two private equity assets managed by Tenaska Capital Management, LLC earned a combined total of 31 safety awards from the National Safety Council (NSC). The awards recognized the plants’ outstanding safety records through 2011 compared to energy-related facilities across the United States. Eight of the plants recognized have operated at least five years and three operated at least 10 years without a U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration illness or injury that resulted in time away from work.

Tenaska Virginia Earns Highest Safety Award

The Tenaska Virginia Generating Station became one of 42 worksites and the first natural gas-fueled power plant in Virginia to be designated as a Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star Worksite, the nation’s highest safety award. VPP is a U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) cooperative program administered by the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry. Only 2,300 out of 7.2 million worksites across the nation have achieved the VPP Star designation.

Tenaska Ferndale Receives Better Workplace Award

The Tenaska Ferndale Cogeneration Station was one of 18 businesses recognized by the Association of Washington Businesses with a Better Workplace Award. The award specifically recognized the plant’s employee-centered safety program, which has allowed employees to work more than 20 years without an injury or illness resulting in time away from work.

High Desert Named Climate Action Leader

High Desert Power Project, LLC, an asset managed by Tenaska Capital Management, LLC and operated by another Tenaska affiliate, was named a Climate Action Leader as part of the California Climate Action Registry Program. Registry members must undergo a rigorous greenhouse gas emissions inventory in order to receive designation as a Leader.

Tenaska Ferndale Earns Highest Safety Award

Employees at Tenaska Ferndale Cogeneration Station were awarded the nation’s highest safety award, the Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) Star Worksite Award. This U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) cooperative program is administered by the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries’ Division of Occupational Health and Safety. Only 2,000 out of 7.2 million worksites across the nation and only 28 worksites in the state of Washington have achieved the VPP Star designation. The Ferndale Chamber of Commerce named the plant its business of the month in honor of its commitment to safety.

Tenaska Virginia Recognized by Department of Education

Tenaska Virginia Generating Station was recognized by the Virginia Department of Education with a regional 2008 Creating Excellence Award for its support of career and technical education. Employees at the plant were recognized for their partnership with Fluvanna County Schools, including collaboration with the high school robotics team at the Virginia Tech Challenge.

The Tenaska Ferndale Cogeneration Station, in particular, operated more than 14 years without an occupational injury or illness involving days away from work.

Tenaska Virginia Honored by Governor for Volunteerism

Tenaska Virginia Generating Station is the business recipient of a 2008 Virginia Governor’s Volunteerism and Community Service Award. The plant was nominated for the award by the Fluvanna County Department of Social Services and the Fluvanna County Public Schools superintendent for employee involvement in elementary and middle school tutoring and mentoring programs.

Tenaska Georgia Named County’s Business of the Year

Tenaska Georgia Generating Station was named Heard County Business of the Year for employee and plant support of numerous community events, including the Chamber’s Youth and Adult Leadership Programs, school fall festivals, reading programs, mentoring programs, youth recreation sports, the Chattahoochee River Cleanup Project and the March of Dimes Annual Walk.
