Tenaska has an excellent international reputation for development, management and operation of high-quality, efficient and environmentally responsible electric generating plants. The company has developed about 9,000 megawatts (MW) of generation in 15 domestic and international projects. Tenaska directly operates or oversees 17 generating plants in 11 states, totaling approximately 12,000 MW.

Tenaska’s portfolio of plants in the United States continued to successfully meet customers’ demand in 2009, with an on-peak availability averaging more than 98 percent.
Awards Recognize Excellence
In 2009, four plants operated or overseen by Tenaska earned five individual Best Practices awards from the leading industry magazine Combined Cycle Journal. These awards recognize plant staff, engineering and asset management contributions to reliable, efficient and safe operation of combustion turbine-based generating facilities. In 2007, seven Tenaska plants collectively won a ‘Best of the Best’ Practices award. Seven Tenaska-owned plants also won 17awards in 2008 from the National Safety Council for their excellent safety records and safety programs.In 2010, the Tenaska Virginia Generating Station joined the Tenaska Ferndale Cogeneration Station as a Voluntary Protection Programs Star Worksite, the nation’s highest safety designation, awarded by state occupational health and safety departments in cooperation with OSHA. Only 2,300 out of 7.2 million worksites across the nation have achieved the VPP Star designation.
In addition, in 2007 “POWER” magazine named the Tenaska Virginia Generating Station one of six model natural gas-fired generating plants worldwide, recognizing it for its excellent operations record and good corporate citizenship. In addition to its involvement in community organizations, the magazine cited Tenaska Virginia for a training program that has “shortened the plant’s start-up time and elevated its availability, making it much more dispatchable and profitable.”
Good Corporate Citizenship
Tenaska is committed to building long-term, positive relationships with customers and with the communities where plants are located. Tenaska's employees work to be good corporate citizens through service in community organizations, volunteer work and supporting youth activities and scholarships.Tenaska plants are frequently recognized for their corporate citizenship. In 2008, Tenaska Georgia Generating Station was named Heard County Business of the Year for employee and plant support of numerous community events. Tenaska Virginia Generating Station was a recipient of the Virginia Governor’s Volunteerism and Community Service Award for its employee involvement in local school tutoring and mentoring programs.
