Tenaska is committed to working openly and in coordination with communities and local leaders during the planning and development of each of our generating plants. To foster understanding, we meet often with local representatives, sharing knowledge and keeping the community informed about all aspects of the facility's development.
Tenaska is an industry leader in its commitment to the environment. Independent power projects developed by Tenaska are sited, designed, constructed and operated to meet all state and national environmental standards. Tenaska plants have received national recognition for their efficiency and use of the latest technology. Tenaska was listed by the Natural Resources Defense Council in 2008 benchmarking studies as having the best record among companies in the U.S. that generate power from fossil fuels for controlling emissions of carbon dioxide and as one of the top performing companies for controlling emissions of nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide.

At Tenaska, good citizenship also includes service to the communities where our facilities are located. Tenaska’s employees at its eight North American generating plants and other business locations contribute to and support broad-based community programs such as United Way. Tenaska and its power generation customers are proud to help educate many of the young neighbors at our plant locations, giving $308,500 in scholarships to 465 college-bound seniors to date.
Each year our employees also donate thousands of hours of their time to community projects, from serving on school boards and Chambers of Commerce to tutoring students and coaching athletics.
