OSHA recognizes Tenaska Georgia Generating Station with nation’s top safety award
Recognition coincides with plant’s 25th anniversary
FRANKLIN, Ga., Sept. 25, 2026 – Tenaska Georgia Generating Station (Tenaska Georgia) has been awarded the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star designation, the agency’s highest recognition for workplace safety and health. The honor comes as the plant celebrates 25 years of safe and reliable operations.
OSHA’s VPP Star recognizes worksites with exemplary safety practices, strong employee engagement and injury prevention programs that exceed regulatory requirements. Earning the designation requires a comprehensive review of a worksite’s safety and health programs and the active involvement of both management and employees.
“This recognition reflects the discipline and ownership the Tenaska Georgia team brings to work every day,” said Chris Leitner, President and CEO of Tenaska. “There is a lot to be proud of as we celebrate 25 years, and earning VPP Star status makes this milestone even more significant. It’s a tremendous accomplishment for this team.”’
Tenaska Georgia celebrated both milestones with a luncheon on Sept. 24 that welcomed roughly 130 guests, including employees and their families, community leaders, business partners, and state and federal representatives.
Tenaska Georgia’s 25-year history has been shaped by the employees who have operated and maintained the plant. Today, the facility has 12 full-time employees, including team members who have been there since operations began.
“I am incredibly proud of our employees and what they have accomplished,” said Morris Long, Plant Manager at Tenaska Georgia. “Earning VPP Star designation took a tremendous amount of dedication and commitment from this team, which makes it especially meaningful to celebrate alongside our 25th anniversary. It’s a great moment for everyone who has been part of Tenaska Georgia.”
The plant’s impact extends beyond its safety and operating record. Since 2001, Tenaska Georgia has contributed more than $4.4 million in employee salaries and more than $5 million in local property taxes to the region, along with thousands of dollars in scholarships for students in surrounding communities.
The 945-megawatt natural gas-fueled plant provides flexible generation that can respond quickly to periods of high electricity demand and help support regional grid reliability.
