AGAWAM, Massachusetts – Employees at Berkshire Power Company, LLC have earned two awards from the National Safety Council (NSC) for outstanding safety performance in 2021: the Perfect Record and the Occupational Excellence Achievement awards.

“Our employees take pride in maintaining a safe work environment,” said Plant Manager Robert Bell. “Their focus on performing each task safely ensures that everyone returns home safely at the end of each shift.”

The Perfect Record Award recognized companies that have completed 12 months without incurring a U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) lost-time injury or illness. The Occupational Excellence Achievement Award honors plants for operating with a safety record equal to or better than 50% of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics rates in the industry for lost-time illnesses and injuries.

The Berkshire plant generates power for the ISO New England market, the regional transmission organization that serves six New England states, including Massachusetts. At 229 MW, the plant can generate enough power for approximately 230,000 homes.

Berkshire Power Company is an important contributor to the local tax base. In 2021, the plant injected approximately $7.3 million in salaries and payments to local contractors and vendors into the area economy.

In addition, employees are active in the community and are committed to supporting local community and charitable projects.
