Christopher Leitner

President and CEO

Christopher Leitner is the President and CEO of Tenaska, one of the premier independent energy companies in the U.S. Tenaska provides services and expertise in natural gas and electric power marketing, energy management, project development and operation and management of power generation facilities. He is a member of Tenaska’s Executive Leadership Board.

Before assuming his current role in 2022, Mr. Leitner served as the President of Tenaska Development (formerly Strategic Development and Acquisitions), where he was responsible for strategic planning, business development and project origination throughout North America. Under his leadership, Tenaska developed 16,400 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy projects and optimized power generation facilities across the U.S.

Mr. Leitner started at Tenaska as an executive charged with investing capital and managing energy-related assets. In this role, he led the acquisition, optimization and divestiture of 10,500 MW of power generation facilities on behalf of private equity funds managed by Tenaska Capital Management.

Before joining Tenaska in 2003, Mr. Leitner was the Director of Asset Investments at Aquila, Inc., where he focused on transactions involving generation asset portfolios and related infrastructure. Mr. Leitner also previously worked at Koch Industries, Inc., where he was responsible for analysis and due diligence related to transactions in the natural gas midstream and crude oil industries.

Outside of Tenaska, Mr. Leitner serves on the Board of Directors and as an Executive Committee Member for United Way of the Midlands. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Omaha Performing Arts and actively supports multiple endeavors at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Business.

Mr. Leitner has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and a Master of Business Administration with concentrations in Finance and Strategy from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
