SMITHTON, Pennsylvania – Employees at the Tenaska Westmoreland Generating Station have been honored with two awards from the National Safety Council (NSC) for outstanding safety performance in 2021: the Perfect Record and the Occupational Excellence Achievement awards.

“Our employees continue to develop innovative programs and training to enhance safety in the workplace,” said Plant Manager Robert Mayfield. “These programs keep our employees and our community safe, and it is an honor for our employees to be recognized for their hard work.”

The Perfect Record Award recognizes companies that have completed 12 months without incurring a U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) lost-time injury or illness. The Occupational Excellence Achievement Award honors plants for operating with a safety record equal to or better than 50% of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics rates in the industry for lost-time illnesses and injuries.

Tenaska Westmoreland Generating Station has had zero safety incidents since the start of commercial operation in 2018.

At 940 megawatts (MW), this natural gas-fueled plant can generate enough power to meet the needs of approximately 940,000 homes in the PJM Interconnection market, which coordinates the delivery of reliable power in all or parts of 13 eastern states, including Pennsylvania, and the District of Columbia.

Tenaska Westmoreland injects approximately $8.6 million annually in salaries and payments to local contractors and vendors into the area economy each year. In addition, Tenaska Westmoreland generates significant tax revenue and provides support for community and education programs.
