New Plant Manager Hired for Tenaska Kiamichi Generating Station

 

Tom Hanes Brings more than 14 Years of Power Plant Operations Experience

 

KIOWA, Oklahoma – Tenaska has hired Tom Hanes to oversee operations at Tenaska Kiamichi Generating Station near Kiowa, Okla. Hanes replaces plant manager Frank Carelli, who is taking on a new role within Tenaska. Frank served as plant manager since 2018.

“Tom’s demonstrated expertise and strong leadership skills make him a great fit for the job,” said Todd Jonas, Tenaska senior vice president of operations. “His industry experience, including most recently serving as assistant plant manager at Kiamichi Generating Station, have prepared him well for the position and will compliment his efforts to maintain and reinforce Tenaska’s reputation for best-in-class operations at the facility.”

As plant manager, Hanes will oversee the day-to-day operations, including responsibility for environmental, safety, community relations and efficiency programs.

Hanes joined Tenaska in 2019 as maintenance manager before his promotion to assistant plant manager in 2021. He has more than 14 years of power plant operations experience, including roles as plant operator and station manager with Duke/Progress Energy. Hanes holds a bachelor’s degree in power engineer technology from Marine Maritime Academy.

Fueled by clean-burning natural gas, Tenaska Kiamichi produces 1,220 megawatts of electricity.

The plant is a large taxpayer in Pittsburg County, contributing more than $51 million in property taxes to date. In 2021, the plant injected more than $8.5 million in salaries and payments to local contractors and vendors into the area economy. In addition, employees volunteered 570 hours to support local community and charitable projects.
